Chantelle’s passion for leadership was ignited by standing on many committees, expanding herself through speech, debating, taking on volunteer roles at Rotorua Girls High and in her community. She has just recently launched Mentor Me Collective, an online mentoring programme for high school students.

Anahera Teinakore-Curtis, 17
Anahera strives hard to be a strong positive role model especially for young Maori women, whether it be in academics, sports, community or the cultural arts. Anahera also won the RIS Overall Hinemoa award for her outstanding contribution as a Maori student.

Last year Hone left school and has been at the FCC practically full time 30 hours a week. He gives alot if time to the community and he always goes above and beyond at the FCC. Hone is an awesome young man with an amazing future ahead of him.

Costume Design
Kathleen has been involved in the costume designs for the Western Heights High Stage Challenge. In 2016 she was the lead costume designer for ‘The Error’ for which Western Heights received an excellence award in costumes. In 2016 Kathleen also designed and made costumes for two school dance crews, Genesis and House of Esses.

Eamon is fully involved with many cultural activities and is an active participant in Kapa Haka, Waka Ama and has been a Taiaha leader, tutoring young students in Taiaha. This year Eamon has been enlisted to help teach every student within John Paul College the Haka in an attempt to lift school spirit.

Maylene offers her time and experience with the Netball Rotorua Association and in the past the Waiariki Maori Netball Organisation, rep coach for BOP, Rotorua, Rotorua Girls High, Western Heights High and Waikite Sports. Maylene is a legend for the youth of Rotorua.

Musician
Adrian is a keen musician who has been playing guitar for 10 years. He enjoys playing many different styles of music, including blues and soft rock. Adrian has performed at local events including the Community Christmas Lunch Gig, the Cancer Charity Fundraiser Gig, Blues Festivals and Te Utuhina Manaakitanga Whanau Hui, just to name a few.

Keisa displays a keen sense of determination and will to succeed. She is passionate about volunteering and her commitment to help fellow students at her school. She is a recipient of the young achievers award from Auckland University and has strong leadership skills, academic ability, resolve and global focus to help humanity.

Pita is the youth ambassador to his general conference, student leader of a youth programme, Sunday School Teacher, children’s moment special talks provider during church services, member of both the youth and the adult choirs, sound engineer during services, scripture reader and assists with grounds maintenance.

From the bottom division of the U14’s three years ago, the nucleus of this team has proven that with training, commitment and dedication they have moved up the rugby ladder and be contenders for the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union 1st Division this season. Last season they travelled to the Gold Coast where they were runners up in the Gold Coast Rugby Festival.

Raukura Kapa Haka
Raukura is a successful cultural Kapa Haka group that is comprised of both Rotorua Boys High and Rotorua Girls High students. They strive to do their best in every competition they attend and they placed first in the 2016 Secondary School Nationals held in Hastings.
The inaugural OneChance Youth Awards (OCYA) will be the first of its kind in Rotorua.
It is anticipated there will be many more youth focused award events in the future.
Aim of the Event
The aim of the OCYA is:
- to honour exceptional Rotorua youth (aged 15-24)
- to celebrate excellence and their achievements or service to the community
The OCYA will provide a platform of distinction to allow peer and community recognition with award finalists officially acknowledged at the OCYA Celebration; a night of glamour and glitz, key note speakers and entertainment where young people are appreciated for their outstanding dedication in the community and their nominated category.
Awards General Criteria
To be eligible, nominees must be aged between 15 and 24, currently live or have lived in the Rotorua District in the past 12 months. Nominees must have:
- Contributed significantly to their community/team/workplace
- Demonstrated integrity, initiative and enthusiasm
- Demonstrated the ability to motivate, engage and positively influence others
- Demonstrated commitment and perseverance
- Demonstrated leadership skills

Nominations
The awards information and nomination process will be sent to Rotorua High Schools, Youth Service providers, the Rotorua Lakes Council, various local trusts, organisations, the OneChance website, Facebook, email database and local media. The public are encouraged to nominate online to ensure the process is transparent and accountable. Nominations are counted, collated and the top three nominations in each category making the finals. Once the judges have selected the three finalists for the X-Factor Peoples Choice, the public can then vote online to decide the winner.

OneChance Youth Awards Celebration tickets are free and need to be collected from the Ticketmaster Box Office at the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre, 1170 Fenton St, Rotorua.
The theme is Glitz and Glamour with the Awards being a formal event requires formal attire.

Finalists
Three finalists are found via the online nomination process which will be uploaded to the website and judges will pick the winners. The finalists of each category will be announced at the Media Launch and the overall winner of the categories will be announced at the OneChance Youth Awards Celebration at the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre, 26 May 2017.
Tickets for the Awards Celebration will become available Thursday 20 April only at www.onechance.nz
$10,000 in Cash & Prizes
Each award category winner will receive cash, prizes and a custom made trophy from the NZ Maori Arts and Crafts Institute. All finalists receive a certificate of achievement.

‘X-Factor’ People’s Choice Award
This award is open to the general public of Rotorua to nominate and then vote for an individual young person who has the ‘X-Factor’. This youth shows determination, the will to succeed, a willingness to learn, integrity, has fun and works hard in all areas of life. Three finalists are then chosen by the judges and the public then vote to find the winner.
